Have you ever been pushed into a blind date by a mutual friend? Well you aren’t the only one, and celebrities aren’t exempt from peer pressure either. In fact, you’d be surprised by how many famous couples actually met this way. So here are 40 pairings which show that no matter how big the star, they’re not beyond some well-meaning meddling.

40. Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger

Actor and stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt met his wife Meredith Salenger virtually through their friend Martha Plimpton after the latter had put on a dinner party. She’d invited both Oswalt and Salenger to the event which the funnyman had missed, but they subsequently exchanged messages on Facebook. Oswalt told US weekly in 2017, “… By the time we met on our first date I was so head over heels.”

39. Keira Knightley and James Righton

Despite playing several loved-up movie characters, actress Keira Knightley was initially reluctant to marry. But that all changed when fashion designer friend Alexa Chung introduced her to Klaxons keyboard player James Righton. She told the U.K. edition of Harper’s Bazaar in 2013 that the negatives she associated with marriage were “actually quite liberating and quite nice.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith met her future husband Will during auditions for classic TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She was just 19 at the time, but a joint dinner with their shared friends opened Pinkett-Smith’s eyes. One Direction star Louis Tomlinson owes his relationship with assistant stylist Eleanor Calder to fellow band member Harry Styles. The former told Seventeen magazine, “[Calder] was a friend of [Styles’]. He worked with her friend at a local bakery. One day, [the singer] met up with his friend, [Calder] came, and we met.”

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are the new hot couple, and Dwayne Johnson admitted to being their burly cupid to Entertainment Online in 2018. He’d met them both in the previous year; Jonas on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Chopra on Baywatch. And the couple’s relationship is going strong; the two walked down the aisle together in 2018.

Even though actors Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are apparently no longer together, the two were one of the most high-profile couples back in the day. The popular entered into a seven-year relationship in 1998 after a blind date arranged by none other than their agents. However, in January 2020 U.K. newspaper the Daily Mirror quoted several “friends” of the pair who claimed that the two were back on.

Fans just want to see Aniston lucky in love and thought fellow actor Justin Theroux might be her chance. The pair initially met via friends in 2007 working on Tropic Thunder – though it is reportedly not clear whether it was Ben Stiller or Robert Downey Jr. They started dating a few years after their introduction, but their romance wasn’t meant to be, and they split amicably in 2018.

Initially, Couric had wanted to date a doctor, but her pal’s surgeon husband didn’t know any available ones. Instead they suggested banker John Molner – who made the perfect first impression. It was love at first sight, and the couple married in 2014. Couric told People magazine, “He had me at hello.”

As a celebrity comedian, Ali Wentworth was tired of dating actors and agents, so her friend suggested someone different: the latter’s ex. Wentworth was against the idea, but she finally agreed to a blind date with TV presenter George Stephanopoulos. In a 2017 airing of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Wentworth said that “by the end of lunch, [it was] done. We were engaged two months later [and] married six months [after that].”

Sister, Sister star Tamara Mowry-Housley met her journalist husband Adam Housley thanks to their economics teacher Robert Sexton. According to Marie Claire, Housley saw a picture of the actress among photographs of the professor’s star pupils and singled her out. As a result, the latter got them in touch via the internet and now they’re married with children. Mowry-Housley told Yahoo! Lifestyle in 2018, “I always say, ‘He got me with his words.’”

It’s fair to say the Kardashians have few secrets in their dating lives. As such, reality TV fans will be familiar with Kourtney Kardashian’s tumultuous relationship with Scott Disick. Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis told entertainment website In Touch, “I introduced [Kardashian] and [Disick] at my house in Mexico.” The relationship resulted in three children, but the couple sadly broke up in 2015.

Brandon Jennings, who is a professional basketball player, set her up with fellow athlete Tristan Thompson and they ultimately had a child together. However, the pairing was doomed by infidelity on Thompson’s part – resulting in a 2019 separation.

Kat Dennings co-starred in the sitcom 2 Broke Girls with Beth Behrs, and the latter actress introduced her to singer Josh Groban. A friend introduced the model to quarterback Brady because they were so alike – right down to their devout faith. Kenya Moore made a name for herself as a television personality on the reality TV series The Real Housewives of Atlanta. You’d never guess the celebrity who links renowned Friends actress Cox with musician Johnny McDaid: Ed Sheeran. In an interview with OMG!
