Saved By The Bell’s Dustin Diamond Was A ’90s Icon, But Then He Made A Series Of Dire Decisions

To a certain generation, the character of Screech is almost iconic. His face and voice are unmistakable, of course, and – alongside his Bayside High classmates – Screech became a legend of young person’s 1990s TV viewing. This was, after all, in a time long before the internet and thousands of satellite channels made stars out of seemingly everybody. Yet while Screech was Saved by the Bell’s lovable dork, fate had dark times ahead for the actor who played him.

Yes, Screech was the counterpoint to the cool Zack, Kelly and the rest of the Bayside crew in NBC’s Saved by the Bell. Actor Dustin Diamond became famous off the back of the role too. But while his fellow cast members forged careers that would see them hit varying degrees of success, Diamond seemingly went off the rails. In fact, the actor’s volatile behavior meant that his personal and professional life became increasingly fraught with problems.
