This couple might be the very definition of the phrase “opposites attract” – she’s dressy whereas he’s more casual. But then he went through a transformation that absolutely no-one saw coming.

When her boyfriend stepped out from behind the screen with a whole new look, she simply couldn’t believe her eyes. Was this really her man? But then he took her hand and did something completely unexpected.

Young lovers Claribel Vizcarra and Brandon Vande Pol first got together in high school, before splitting up. They later reconnected, though, and have now been together for three years.

They’re not a couple who look like an obvious match, however. Claribel has a glamorous appearance, while Brandon has always looked relatively scruffy in comparison.

Indeed, Claribel is often seen in dresses, over-the-knee boots or wearing a full face of make up. Brandon, however, has always been a little more low-key, and some might even say that she was out of his league.

Over the years, he grew his hair out and cultivated an ever-lengthening beard. To match his hairy look, he could often be seen wearing baggy T-shirts and hoodies. But despite their differences in appearance, these two are living proof of the age-old saying, “Opposites attract.”

After three years together their relationship was going from strength to strength. They lived together and had even been talking about marriage. Claribel wanted one thing, though: she wanted her man to have a more “mature” look.

So they did something drastic. The couple would appear on the Rachael Ray Show to share their story with the nation, and Brandon would get a complete makeover.

The team behind the show got to work on Brandon. Soon it would be time for the big reveal in front of the live studio audience. Then Claribel’s man stepped past a screen and there he was. Brandon and his amazing new look.

The audience went wild. Claribel simply couldn’t believe her eyes. Out stepped a man who was practically unrecognizable. Was this really Brandon? The long hair and baggy clothes were gone and replaced with a completely different look.

Not only was he wearing a dapper suit, complete with a tie, but his hair had been transformed. They’d chopped off his long locks, leaving him with a suave and sophisticated do.

The beard had been trimmed down to neat and tidy stubble and his glasses were no more. Brandon described Claribel as “a total babe” before his makeover, but no one could say that she was out of his league anymore.

Claribel was then invited up onto the stage to embrace her new man. As they shared a loving hug, she was clearly still shocked. Little did she know, though, that the surprises weren’t over for the day.

The hosts asked the couple how they felt, noting that Brandon seemed speechless. “You gotta have something to say,” they inquired. It seemed as though they were setting him up for something.

“I do,” he replied before turning to his girlfriend. The audience screamed as Brandon dropped down to one knee on the stage. He then took Claribel’s hand and told her that he loved her.

“I would be honored if you would be my wife,” he said fighting back the tears. Amid applause and screams from the crowd he produced a beautiful ring and placed it on her finger.

After the couple shared another hug, they were both beyond words. But then host, Rachael Ray, had even more good news to reveal. Not only had they made over Brandon, but the show also had a surprise gift for the newly engaged pair.

They were sending them on a luxury holiday worth $4,000. An all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean was around the corner for the happy couple, who had just sealed their engagement to become husband and wife just moments before.

The hosts admired Claribel’s ring and asked if she was OK, to which she replied, “I’m very flustered!” It was hardly a surprising reaction, considering that she had just been proposed to in front of millions of viewers.

The makeover guru had warned us that our jaws would drop when Brandon’s transformation was revealed for the first time – and she wasn’t wrong. He looked like a totally different person. But no one had seen the proposal coming.

Now Claribel has both an engagement ring and a dishy fiancé by her side. What’s more, they’re free to show off Brandon’s new look on their luxury getaway in the Caribbean – and to begin the preparations for their wedding.
