In 2017 Simon Cowell was forced to take a rare break from work when he was rushed to hospital after a fall at his home. That health scare then prompted the music mogul to change his lifestyle – and he made a promise to his young son into the bargain.
Born in Lambeth, London, in 1959, Simon Cowell began his showbiz career working as a runner on classic horror The Shining. His start in music was similarly humble: at one point, he worked in the EMI mail room. In the 1980s, however, he formed several record companies and subsequently scored his first major hit via then-girlfriend Sinitta.
Cowell experienced even more success when he began bringing the worlds of music and television together; he was the one behind novelty records by the likes of the Power Rangers, the World Wrestling Federation and the Teletubbies. Then, in 1995 his S Records label produced the biggest U.K. single and album of the year thanks to British TV actors Robson Green and Jerome Flynn – the latter of whom went on to star on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
